From Round Hill on Rainy Day
This painting, over the course of about four hours took on many
variations as the humid air turned to rain the landscape became milky
with moisture. After the rain the humidity was washed out of the
air and the colors became very saturated and rich. Early autumn
of 2009.
~ 16" x 20" framed with one inch white linen liner and large
Crema (soft gold) Florentina frame.

Stockholm Village Park
~6 x 13" plus framed with 2" greenish/gold flat frame
This was painted in mid May on the Mississippi River, across from Lake
City, MN. I mostly finished it on a Monday, went home but thought
that the colors just 'couldn't be right'. So I returned on
Thursday and was impressed to see that yes, the colors were
accurate. I guess that's spring!

The Low Road
~ 16" x 20"
This painting was done on a warm summer day from a bluff overlooking
the
lower Thompson Lake area near Durand, WI.
There must have been about 53 colors of green to select from.
The blueish hills in the background are the bluffs on the east side of
the Chippewa River.
The size is about 16" x 20"
It is framed with a one inch white linen liner capped by the large Gold Florentina frame.

Silver Birch Park
This was my first attempt at representing water with oil paint.
This is a sweet little park near my home on a backwater of the Chippewa
River. I spent the whole day painting. I parked my little
Pontiac Vibe at the site, lifted the back gate and used the storage
area
as my painting table. I had my music CDs playing and
had one of the best days of the year.

Davis Dock
Nadine Leo and I took her pontoon over to an island off the Minnesota
side of the Mississippi River, south of Wabasha.
We were invited to use the old Davis family cabin as a place to set up
our canvasses and work. It was fortunate that we had the cabin
because a major storm blew in. I had to grab my easel and paints
and run into the house to save the painting. I couldn't finish it
there so I took it back to my studio. The green shrub in the
foreground was problematic but I feel I improved it in the studio when
not so tied down to the actual subject. When I chose the site,
there was a canoe in the foreground, but just as I began to start
painting Sue Davis took the canoe and 'sailed' away, oops!!
